Ductile Iron Castings from India

Ductile iron has a long history – it was created in World War II. Ductile iron castings offer excellent surface finish, have a better strength to weight ratio as compared to ferrous alloys, are corrosion resistant and can be machined precisely.

Machined Castings

Qualitas uses CNC turning, horizontal milling, vertical milling, hobbing, broaching, honing and grinding to machine the ductile iron castings. We supply machined castings such as flanges, pump housings, valve bodies, motor housings, gears etc.

Qualitas ductile iron castings are exported to Europe and U.S.A.

Ductile iron castings are made of an alloy of iron, carbon, silicon and magnesium. In addition, ductile iron can also contain traces of manganese, phosphorous, sulphur, tin and copper. Castings made from ductile iron get their flexibility from modular graphite. Ductile cast iron has more resistance to corrosion than simple cast iron. Ductile iron is a major engineering material used for castings. It is used for many structural applications, particularly those requiring strength and toughness combined with good machinability and low cost. Ductile cast iron is used in the automobile industry – especially crankshafts, engine connecting rods, wheel hubs, axels, etc. for heavy vehicles like trucks and tractors. It is also used in oil pumps. The quality of the ductile iron casting is affected by the presence of elements like silicon, manganese, nickel and phosphorous. It is also affected by the heat treatment process. Ductile iron exhibits a linear stress-strain relation, a considerable range of yield strength and of course, ductility. Ductile iron castings are made in a wide range of sizes with sections that can be either very thin or very thick. Different grades of ductile cast iron are produced by controlling the matrix structure around the graphite either as-cast or by subsequent heat transfer. Alloys can be added to ductile iron castings for controlling the matrix structure as-cast or to provide better response to heat treatment. The advantages of ductile iron castings over other type of castings can be summarized as versatility and high performance at a low cost. Castings made of austempered ductile iron offer even more mechanical and wear resistance. Ductile iron offers significantly low shrinkage during casting

For large castings, ductile iron does not require any feeder (unlike iron castings). This in turn reduces its material and energy requirements, resulting in cost savings.
